Explore Our Programs & Services

Connect & Thrive is our flagship program designed to bring people together and help them form genuine bonds. Its mission is to create opportunities for meaningful connections, foster supportive communities, and provide accessible resources for mental and emotional well-being. Below are the key goals and who we serve:

Community Meetups

Organize regular in-person and virtual gatherings, like coffee mornings, community lunches, hobby groups, and discussion circles. Provide transportation for elderly or disabled individuals who may have difficulty attending in person.

"Buddy" Program

Pair individuals with trained volunteers who will regularly check in, have conversations, and participate in activities together. The "Buddy" can visit in person or keep in touch through phone calls or video chats, depending on the participant’s comfort.

Skill-Sharing Workshops

Host free workshops where individuals can learn new skills or hobbies (e.g., cooking, painting, gardening) while connecting with others. Encourage members of the community to teach and share their skills, promoting a culture of giving and collaboration.

Support Groups

Provide professionally facilitated support groups that address specific challenges such as grief, new parenting, chronic illness, or social anxiety. Allow participants to share their stories and offer support in a safe and judgment-free environment.

Mentorship Program

Develop a mentorship program where younger generations can be paired with older individuals to share experiences and learn from each other. Focus on cross-generational connections to break down stereotypes and foster mutual understanding.

Digital Platform

Create a user-friendly website or app to facilitate virtual meetups, provide resources on mental well-being, and offer access to support groups. Include forums and chat options for participants to connect with each other outside of scheduled events.

Volunteer Training

Train volunteers in active listening, mental health first aid, and creating inclusive environments. Ensure volunteers are equipped to handle sensitive situations and provide referrals to professional help if necessary.

Events and Activities Calendar

Publish a monthly calendar of local and virtual events, including outdoor activities, game nights, book clubs, and social gatherings. Encourage the community to suggest and host events to boost engagement.

Why It Matters

Loneliness is a critical public health concern, significantly impacting mental and physical health. In Cleveland, 1 in 4 adults report regularly feeling lonely, increasing their risk of depression, anxiety, and health issues.

The Friendship Support Network actively addresses this by providing structured solutions to social isolation, helping residents form meaningful relationships, find support networks, and improve their emotional health. By fostering friendships and community connections, we're enhancing the quality of life across Cleveland.
